What Is A Green Smoothie?

Hi everybody!
Greetings from Sungarden (Latvian 4H office)  in Riga!
The sun shines and it’s a beautiful spring day, here in Riga! This morning, I made my favorite green smoothie and realized that I want to write in my blog about the smoothies!
Spring is an amazing season. It brings nature back to life. I don’t know about you (that is, if you’re also experiencing the transition from winter to spring like I am here in Riga, Latvia), but I have been feeling a lot more energized lately. Maybe because it’s sunnier and days are getting  longer. For me spring is also the time when I start to make smoothies – green smoothies are quick and easy to make and only require a blender, a sharp knife and cutting board. Making a delicious smoothie with a thick, creamy texture is an art. Fortunately, it’s an art that anybody can learn! Once you know the basics, you can make your own creation and never get tired of the same recipes day after day.
What Is A Green Smoothie?
A green smoothie is a collection of using fresh fruits and dark, leafy greens such as spinach, kale, and collard (to name a few). These smoothies are naturally dairy-free, using creamy fruits like banana, mango or papaya to give them a thicker texture.
Green smoothies are rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, dietary fiber and protein. A typical recipe contains at least 3-5 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables. The best part of it, is that it tastes like fruit and you’ll never know there’s anything leafy or any kind of veggie in there!
Are you ready to jump in and make your first green smoothie? Here is one of my smoothie recipes:
1 medium banana, peeled and slicedA bunch of spinach, chopped2 kiwi, peeled and sliced2 small cucumbers3 tablespoons of oat flakes100 ml water
Blend on high for 30 seconds or until the smoothie gets rich and creamy!
I wish you all a bright, colorful and sunny spring!
