During our General Assembly at this year’s Rally in Germany, we elected our new board. Here is some more information about our new board member for Group 1, Shane Quigley!
What member organisation are you a part of?
I have been a member of Macra na Feirme in Ireland since 2009. I have been privileged to have held a number of roles within the organisation at club, county and national level. At club and county level, I have held pretty much every role possible, Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, PRO etc. At a National level, I was my counties representative on National Council for four years from 2017 to 2021. During that time I spent two years as the National Rural Youth Committee Chairperson and was also a member of the Board for two years.
What are the main skills that you have gained from being a part of your member organisation?
I have learnt so much from Macra, from simple things like how meetings work, to completing many training courses on governance, strategy, lobbying etc.
Why did you want to be a member of the board of Rural Youth Europe?
I wanted to make a difference to the organisation and to try and help bring it to the next level. Rural Youth Europe is an amazing organisation but it has the potential to be so much more than it is right now. As I said in my speech to the General Assembly, I want to help member organisations work more collaboratively together and to learn from each other.
What is your favourite Rural Youth Europe memory?
To be honest there are so many memories from the events I have been to, so it’s hard to choose from. If I was pressed on it though, it’s the same as everyone who was at the Rally in Latvia, the bus getting stuck!
