Study Session 2026: Call for Participants

Rural Youth Europe (RYE), in cooperation with the Council of Europe and the European Youth Center Budapest (EYCB), warmly invites young people from rural communities across Council of Europe member states to take part in the Study Session 2026, “From Scroll to Action: Media Literacy for Rural Youth Empowerment”. 


This week-long study session will gather 25 young people to enhance their media literacy skills, equipping them to critically assess information, combat disinformation, and strengthen their engagement with democratic institutions at local, national, and European levels. 


Time & Location 


8-14 March 2026 (arrival and departure days included) 

European Youth Center Budapest (EYCB), Hungary 

Sessions will run between 9-13 March 2026. 


About the Event 


Objectives of the Study Session 


  • To analyse the challenges and opportunities related to media literacy in rural communities, and explore how disinformation affects these areas, including its impact on political disengagement and vulnerability to radicalisation. 

  • To build practical media literacy skills focused on identifying credible sources, understanding media biases, and recognising disinformation tactics in rural contexts. 

  • To develop critical thinking and analytical skills to empower rural youth to question and evaluate the information they encounter. 

  • To promote active civic engagement by encouraging participants to take an informed and constructive role in political systems and to advocate for their rural communities.

Participants Must: 


  • Be aged 18–30 years old (participants over 30 are also welcome to apply for a limited number of spaces); 

  • Reside in a Council of Europe member state

  • Be active in their local community or youth organisation; 

  • Be interested in media literacy, civic engagement, and rural development; 

  • Be able to communicate in English; 

  • Follow the Code of Conduct and general rules throughout the session. 

 

Travel and Fees 


  • The Council of Europe covers all costs related to accommodation, food, and travel. 

  • There is a participation fee of €50, collected by RYE and paid to the Council of Europe. 

  • Participants are responsible for collecting and submitting all original tickets, proofs of payment, and boarding passes as requested.

The deadline for the Registration is 4th of January 2026.
