We are proud to announce that Rural Youth Europe has joined the Fast & Fair Renewables and Grids Initiative, a European coalition of stakeholders advocating for a faster, fairer, and more inclusive deployment of renewable energy and grid infrastructure across Europe.
As Europe accelerates its energy transition to meet its climate goals, it is essential that the development of renewable energy projects benefits not only the environment, but also the people and communities at the heart of this transformation. The Fast & Fair Renewables and Grids Initiative brings together civil society organisations, local governments, developers, industry actors, and other stakeholders to promote a shared vision of renewable energy development that is both effective and equitable.
A Common Vision for a Fair Energy Transition
The initiative is rooted in a European consensus on how renewable energy projects can be developed with stronger community support, citizen engagement and greater local benefits. Its framework is based on five shared principles that encourage renewable energy deployment to:
Create value for local communities and strengthen local economies;
Foster meaningful participation and stakeholder engagement;
Support biodiversity protection alongside climate action;
Increase transparency and trust throughout project development;
Empower communities in shaping the energy transition.

Why Is RYE Joining?
At RYE, we believe that young people and rural communities must play an active role in shaping Europe's sustainable future. Renewable energy projects have the potential to generate new opportunities for rural areas, strengthen local resilience, and contribute to climate action. However, this transition can only succeed if it is inclusive, transparent, and beneficial for the communities affected by it.
By joining the initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting policies and practices that combine environmental sustainability, social fairness, and meaningful civic participation. We look forward to contributing the perspectives of rural youth and working alongside partners across Europe to build an energy transition that works for everyone.
