New regional representatives on the board

The GA a while back introduced three new regional board members. Linzi Stewart, the new Vice Chair, has interviewed them.

Hannah Kirkpatrick – Group 1 (UK and Ireland)

Who are you?
I’m Hannah Kirkpatrick. I am a 22 year old Journalist who is extremely passionate about all things young farmers and rural youth involvement.

What’s your background on rural matters?
I am very aware of the many rural issues that everyone who lives in the rural area comes across. I was lucky enough to be part of the 2018 European Rally in Scotland. At this week-long event we looked at rural issues and the barriers each country has. It was great to see how everyone has their issues but is active in doing something to overcome it.

Best Rural Youth memory?
As I am a newly elected board member I haven’t yet had the opportunity to experience everything the board has to offer. However as I have already mentioned, I was part of team Ulster, at the 2018 rally in Scotland. I had a fantastic week, meeting loads of new people, making life long friends and experiencing different cultures from all throughout Europe.

Why did you decided to run an become a board member?
After hearing about the fantastic work of the board, I was so excited to be able to replace Linzi Stewart as the 5 nations representative as she is now vice-chair. I have a passion for the rural youth organisations and what the represent. I am looking forward to being the voice of the 5 nations and making a difference.

A hidden talent of mine of yours?
I’m not sure if I have a hidden talent but I have been Irish dancing from the age of 3 and still dancing to this day.

Favourite quote/saying?
My favourite saying is ‘what is for you won’t go by you.’ I really believe in this, as if something is meant to be in your life it will happen, just got to give it time.

What is the most important reason why we do human rights?
This is such an important issue that effects everyone across the globe. I feel the more we can do for the cause the better. Everyone’s life matters and has a right to live it to its full potential.

Greetings to readers
Hey everyone, I am so excited to a part of the RYE board. I can’t wait to see what this next year holds and the experiences that are in store. I hope you all enjoy being kept up to date with all the wonderful and fabulous work of RYE and I am looking forward to being able to contribute towards that

Daniela Allram – Group 2 (Central Europe)

Who are you?
My name is Daniela Allram, I´m 26 years old. I live in a small village in the Northeast of Austria. I work for a company who breeds organic seeds for vegetable and herbs.

What’s your background on rural matters?
I joined Landjugend at the age of 14. Since then I´ve been on the board or served as a chair-person for 7 years in total at local/county and federal level. I´ve participated in 8 RYE-events and team meetings.

Best Rural Youth memory?
I guess the best memory was at my first rural event, Rally 2015 in Austria where I was simply overwhelmed by the variety of people I met. Since that that it´s always where heartwarming to see well-known participants

Why did you decided to run an become a board member?
I decided to run as a board member because I think European citizenship has to get straightened in times of upcoming nationalism. Rural Youth Europe gives it´s members great opportunities to overcome barriers and to get to know other cultures and countries. It´s a personal matter for me, that young people think outside the box and I am happy that I can contribute on that aim within my work at RYE. Beside that, of course, I have seen hundreds of people smiling and having fun at the past events and meetings, so that is also quite a good reason or furthermore an honor for me to be part of the RYE team and support seminar and gatherings.

A hidden talent of mine of yours?
I am quite good in accumulating useless knowledge and funny trivialities.

Favourite quote/saying?
The best things aren’t things.

What is the most important reason why we do human rights?
Because people in Western Europe often take them for granted, and don’t see the deficiencies even in industrialized countries.

Greetings to readers
I want to greet everyone at Landjugend Austria who supported me and of course the other member organizations, who putted their trust in me. I am looking forward to meet a lot of new people of all the different member organizations. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any requests.

Nicolai Olsen – Group 3 (Nordic Countries)

Who are you?
I’m Nicolai Olsen form 4H In Denmark. I´m 23 years old and I´m studying to be a teacher.

What’s your background on rural matters?
I have been a board member for the Danish 4H for 3 years now. I have a lot of experience with young people in 4H and making activities for the young members in 4H.

Best Rural Youth memory?
I have been to 8 Rural Youth Europe events and all for them have been something special. One of the best memories was the first Rally I attended in Wales. All participants listened to each other and no question or answer was wrong. I was a bit afraid at the start of the week but because o the group and prep team my fear quickly disappeared and I was not afraid to speak in front of everyone.

Why did you decided to run an become a board member?
Why did I decide to run for the board? There are many answers but the main reason is I think it is my turn to give something back to Rural Youth Europe. Also I have the support from the Danish 4H and my friends from Rural Youth Europe member organisations.

A hidden talent of mine of yours?
I think my hidden talent is that I can make all feel welcome in the group and just be my self.

Favourite quote/saying?
My favourite quote is “Life has no other meaning than the one we give it” by Thornton Wilder. I think this quote just sums up what we are doing and reminds us to make the best out of it.

What is the most important reason why we do human rights?
What can I say; I am studying to be a teacher. It is important to me that I help as many people to have a better time and get some good memories.
