Agriculture Activates – Landwirtschaft belebt
Rural youth organisation Kitzbühel, Austria
With this project the rural youth organisation Kitzbühel wanted to establish a positive atmosphere regarding agriculture. The idea was to promote Austrian agriculture and the value of regional products and to ensure that Austrian farmers can earn their living with agricultural production. The project started in May with an opening ceremony which was the largest event that took ever place in the district of Kitzbühel. It included a procession of all 21 Rural Youth organisations in Kitzbühel and other organisations. Furthermore, the event provided the opportunity for farmers to present their regional specialities. The ceremony was followed by numerous other events like the exhibition “(un)forgotten handcraft” in July. In August the project team arranged a day on the alps. This event was followed by presentations about “now” and “then” of agriculture in September. In October there were handicraft workshops.
The project made a contribution to the stabilisation of the region and achieved sustainable raise of awareness for agriculture. Due to the financial success the organisation is even able to make a charitable donation. The project in Kitzbühel served as an incentive for other regional organisations to follow their example and to accomplish similar projects. This led to numerous events in the region devoted to the project.

A collection bucket was taken during the walk to maximise the attempts at receiving more money and also to inform people along the way of what the walkers were doing. This project was designed and implanted in the frame of the “Campaign 72 hours” (www.72stunden.ch) that motivated young people to implement their projects withing 72 hours. Participants were informed about their task at the start of the 72 hours. During the entire project press was present. A preparatory working group consisting of members of Rural Youth Säntis developed the concept for their project: The aim was to provide hiking trails, parks or prominent, frequently visited sites in the region of eastern Switzerland with benches that show the logo of the Rural Youth.
During the project implementation the members of the Rural Youth Säntis had a lot of fun. After the task was completed the president received several letters of thanks.
