Handy Home Service - Händig Hemhjälp

In the project of Swedish Speaking 4H in Finland youngsters in rural parts of Itä-Uusimaa run small enterprises which offer services like house cleaning, gardening, shopping and keeping company for people living in the area, mainly for elderly people. The organisation helps them by offering work-shops on practical skills related to minor house work and work-shops on entrepreneurship and by supporting them in their actual work. The project has also established a large cooperation with commercial garden.

The project builds bridges between generations, prevents a possible social exclusion for some young persons living in the rural areas and builds a strong confidence to one’s own possibilities as an active part of the society. The young people participating now feel better prepared for the labour market and value the jobs done. There is also a growing interest for services among the households in the area. Furthermore, the project has been extremely interesting for the media.
